Rough Trade NYC - Assistant Store Manager

Term: Permanent, full time position (40 hours per week), reports to General Manager

Salary: Based on experience

Introduction:

The Assistant Manager of Rough Trade NYC is responsible for managing all aspects of the store and staff alongside and in absence of the General Manager.

As Rough Trade NYC looks to relocate from Williamsburg to a new New York location, this summer, this role will commence with the creation of that new store, moving on to being the Assistant Manager from opening. Needless to say, this opportunity is hugely exciting and unique, for not only will the successful candidate find themselves helping shape an incredible, new record store, they will be on the frontline of serving music lovers with the very best new music in what will arguably be one of the highest-profile record stores in the country.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Ensuring the store fulfils the role of being an inspiring place of music lover congregation, being an exciting and welcoming place to visit, utilising great merchandising, creative displays and ‘best in class’ customer service
  • Helping to manage all aspects of recruiting, training, supervising and appraising the team
  • Helping to implement new initiatives & strategies
  • Work with the Database, POS and Inventory Management systems to efficiently maintain the store’s inventory
  • Maintain a consistent and professional line of communication to management and other departments through inter-company communications
  • Manage store merchandising & presentation to maximise sales
  • Daily cash balancing and preparation of deposits
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety rules
  • Analyse & report sales information
  • Contribute ideas to the entire team regarding best practices and where improvements can be made
  • Assist General Manager in any additional tasks required for success of store and staff

Qualifications & Skills:

  • First class people management and leadership skills
  • Proven retail experience, customer service experience
  • Excellent understanding of IT systems (especially G Suite, Inventory Management & resource planning software)
  • Commercially savvy, defining our offer to best reflect demand, opportunities
  • Social media savvy and proficient, professional and confident creating content that reflects our offer, engages with followers, broadens our reach
  • Excellent organisation & planning skills
  • Able to effectively communicate to staff and customers any and all policies in a manner consistent with our core values
  • Demonstrate a great understanding of what Rough Trade are, who our customers are
  • Capable, confident and comfortable being a store and brand ambassador
